Philippine Business Bank, led by Alfredo Yao, booked a net income of P1.52 billion in the first nine months of 2025, down from P1.8 billion recorded a year earlier, even as it reported steady growth in core earnings and assets amid a challenging operating environment.
The thrift bank said its performance remained resilient despite slower economic activity and tougher market conditions, with interest income rising 10 percent to P8.58 billion.
fNet interest income likewise increased to P5.39 billion, reflecting higher lending yields and disciplined portfolio management.
Core income reached P2.56 billion during the period, supported by a stronger funding base and continued expansion in lending activities.
PBB’s total resources grew to P164.2 billion as of September, an increase of P2.9 billion from a year earlier.
Loans and receivables amounted to P121.1 billion, while deposits rose to P136.7 billion.
Shareholders’ equity expanded to P20.8 billion, with a book value per share of P24.64.
The bank’s annualized return on average assets and equity stood at 1.22 percent and 10.11 percent, respectively.
PBB also maintained healthy capital buffers, with a capital adequacy ratio of 12.94 percent and a liquidity ratio of 24.74 percent, both above regulatory thresholds.
PBB president and CEO Roland Avante said the bank’s consistent growth underscored its focus on prudent asset management and customer-centered strategies.
“Amid the backdrop of a sluggish economy and intensified market competition, PBB was still able to attain asset growth and strong core income levels,” Avante said. “PBB’s sustained growth was driven by its continued focus on client relationships, disciplined risk-taking, and managed interest differential.”
Avante acknowledged that part of the bank’s lending portfolio was affected by delayed government payments to suppliers, which temporarily extended collection cycles.
“PBB is actively managing these exposures and continues to implement measures aimed at improving collections,” he added.
The bank said it will continue prioritizing the small and medium enterprise (SME) and mid-market segments while expanding its higher-yielding consumer loan portfolio to bolster future earnings.
PBB operates 158 branches nationwide and continues to primarily serve the SME market.
