UnionBank’s Ana Aboitiz Delgado elected first woman president of BAP

The Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) announced on Wednesday that it has elected Union Bank of the Philippines CEO Ana Aboitiz Delgado as its president for the 2026–2027 term.

Her appointment marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the first woman to lead the organization in its nearly 80-year history.

Delgado’s election reflects both her leadership within UnionBank and her influence in shaping the future of Philippine banking.

Having joined UnionBank more than two decades ago, she has played a pivotal role in driving its digital transformation and expanding its reach across consumer, institutional, and SME banking.

Since assuming the role of UnionBank CEO in January 2025, Delgado has been recognized for steering the bank through rapid technological changes and positioning it as a leader in digital innovation.

“As we accelerate digitalization and unlock the potential of AI, we also face a next generation of risks that extend beyond individual institutions and national borders,” Delgado said in a statement. “These risks are further compounded by the economic impact arising from geopolitical uncertainty.”

The BAP, which represents the country’s universal and commercial banks, plays a key role in promoting financial stability and aligning industry practices.

Delgado said the association will focus on advancing standards and collaboration to preserve and strengthen trust in the financial system.
