The BPI Foundation (BPIF), the social development arm of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), has partnered with Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. (KCFI) to roll out its financial education initiative Estudyantipid in schools across the Bicol region.
The program includes the donation of Knowledge Channel TVs (KCTVs) to public schools in Naga City, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon—areas that were heavily affected by Typhoon Kristine in 2024. The initiative aims to promote financial literacy among students through video lessons on saving, budgeting, and responsible spending.
“Through the Estudyantipid series, we aim to inspire and equip the youth with essential financial knowledge, helping them develop healthy habits early on,” said Carmina Marquez, BPIF executive director.
The partnership with KCFI began in 2024, with 15 KCTVs previously distributed to schools in Ifugao, Aklan, Cebu, South Cotabato, and Sarangani, reaching over 8,000 students. The current expansion is expected to benefit more than 7,000 students in the Bicol region.
The first KCTV under the new phase was installed at Tinago National High School in Naga City. Additional schools in Bula, Camarines Sur, and Donsol, Sorsogon are also set to receive units.
The Estudyantipid program supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) broader push to improve financial literacy, particularly among Filipino youth.
“By integrating Estudyantipid into classroom learning, we aim to equip students with essential financial knowledge, empowering them to make informed decisions and build a foundation for long-term success,” said Edric Calma, KCFI vice president.
BPI said the initiative aligns with its advocacy for inclusive financial education and development under the campaign Kasama Lahat sa Pag-Unlad.
