Several banks including Union Bank of the Philippines led by bankero Edwin Bautista and East West Banking Corp. headed by bankero Tony Moncupa Jr. were subject of a massive phishing attacks Sunday prompting customers to air their concern over Twitter.
Netizens complained about receiving text messages from UnionBank stating that their accounts have been flagged for fraudulent transaction.
“Good Day! Your UnionBank account has been flagged for fraudulent transaction. Your account will be disabled within 24 hours,” the text messages alleged from the Aboitiz-led bank read.
The messages them asked recipients to verify their accounts by clicking a link.
UnionBank was earlier sanctioned by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) after the unauthorized fund transfers from hundreds of depositors of BDO Unibank headed by Nestor Tan found its way into the bank through the non existent Mark Nagoyo account.

“Kaso ngayon, kakaiba. Legit number ng UnionBank kung saan nagsesend ng OTP, tapos may ganito? @UnionBank hello?”
In an advisory posted at 8:30pm, UnionBank cautioned clients against the phishing message.
“Do not click on links and never provide your personal information such as password or OTP to anyone. UnionBank will not ask you to click on links nor ask you to provide this information via call, email or SMS. Be #CyberSure!”
Meanwhile, Komo app of Gotianun-led EastWest was placed under maintenance after clients also received spoof SMS messages.
“Good Day! Your KOMO account has been flagged for fraudulent transaction. Your account will be disabled within 24 hours,” the text messages alleged from KOMO PH read.
“Please do not click on the said link as I’ve confirmed it to be a phishing website, Ingat po ang lahat,” said @lamielcarl.
Komo immediately issued an advisory stating “Stay alert, Komounity! Please disregard the SMS notification from Komo PH about their accounts being disabled. This is not a legitimate communication from Komo.”
The operator apologized to clients for the inconvenience.
