Security Bank wants smarter banking, not less human banking

Security Bank Corp. said banks need to focus on putting artificial intelligence to practical use while maintaining human oversight as the technology becomes more widely adopted.

“The challenge is no longer proving that AI works. The challenge is moving beyond pilots and experiments to embed AI into real workflows, real decisions, and real customer outcomes,” Security Bank AI Execution and Innovation Head Patricia Manasan said.

Speaking at Future Finance Manila 2026 earlier this month, Manasan said agentic AI could help banks improve productivity, customer service and decision-making.

She said adoption would also require safeguards around governance and security, as well as changes in processes and workforce preparation.

“The question is not simply what AI can do, but how we can deploy it responsibly and create measurable value from it,” Manasan said.

She said institutions that move fastest would not necessarily be the ones that succeed.

“They will be the ones that can turn intelligence into trusted action,” she said.

Security Bank SVP and Chief Marketing Officer Patricia Tan, who also spoke at the event, focused on keeping the human element as more banking services move online.

Tan cited empathy, inclusion, financial literacy and trust as important in designing digital services for customers.
