Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli Remolona Jr. said deeper domestic capital markets are needed to strengthen monetary policy and broaden investor participation.
Speaking at Standard Chartered Bank Philippines’ inaugural Markets Forum, Remolona said more developed fixed-income and corporate bond markets would diversify funding sources and help build a more resilient financial system.
The forum brought together government officials, investors and market participants to discuss global market trends, capital markets development and investment opportunities in 2026.
Standard Chartered Chief Economist and Head of FX for ASEAN and South Asia Edward Lee outlined the bank’s global economic outlook, while a panel of industry executives discussed investment and funding trends across ASEAN.
Standard Chartered Philippines CEO Mike Samson said geopolitical and trade shifts continue to reshape supply chains, investment flows and business strategies, while ASEAN remains well positioned as global trade corridors evolve.
“Today’s market environment is characterized by both complexity and opportunity,” Samson said. “As we continue to navigate a volatile world, it is important to sharpen our understanding of the forces shaping our future and improve the decisions we make because of them.”
