RCBC, Visa team up to roll out contactless fare payments on LRT-2

The country’s Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) is set to fully launch a cashless fare payment system on Monday under a new partnership between Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) and global payments giant Visa.

The rollout will allow commuters to use contactless cards to tap and ride across all LRT-2 stations, eliminating the need for cash transactions and physical ticket purchases.

The initiative aims to modernize urban mobility while broadening access to digital payments.

The launch event will be attended by government and private sector leaders, including Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda, and RCBC president and CEO Reggie Cariaso.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand contactless infrastructure and accelerate the digital transformation of public services across the Philippines, with transport systems emerging as a key focus area.
