Putting science to work: Security Bank trains 29 teachers to help communities thrive

Security Bank Foundation Inc. (SBFI) has trained 29 junior high school science master teachers from across the Philippines to develop research projects addressing local environmental, livelihood and health challenges.

The training, held at De La Salle University-DasmariƱas, marked the third year of the foundation’s Mentoring Future Leaders for Nation-Building Program for Science Teachers.

Participants learned to design community-based projects and work with parents, local government units and other stakeholders to turn scientific knowledge into practical solutions.

Their proposals focused on environmental sustainability, livelihood development and health education.

“The most meaningful learning happens when science is connected to people’s lives,” Security Bank Foundation chairman Rafael Simpao Jr. said.

“By helping teachers understand their communities more deeply, we enable them to develop solutions that are relevant, practical, and sustainable,” he added.

The program builds on earlier efforts to upgrade science laboratories, strengthen teacher mentoring and improve student learning outcomes in participating schools.

Teachers will receive additional support through online coaching sessions as they implement their projects.

The initiative will conclude in 2027, when participants present their findings and assess the impact of their projects on learning outcomes, teacher leadership and community resilience.

The multi-year program is implemented in partnership with De La Salle University.
