The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) told the public not to patronize the 20-Piso and enhanced 5-Piso coins that are sold online at higher markups.
As of end-February 2022, 290.09 million pieces of P20 New Generation Currency (NGC) coins and 1.9 billion pieces of the enhanced P5 coins are still in circulation since December 2019.
“The 20-Piso and enhanced 5-Piso coins are still in circulation, and should not be bought at prices higher than their respective face value from online sellers,” the BSP said.
According to the central bank, both currencies coins are legal tender and could be used as payments for goods and services at face value.
