Philippine National Bank (PNB) reported a 22% surge in consolidated net income to P12.5 billion for the first six months of 2025, driven by robust growth in its core interest and fee-based revenues.
The bank’s second-quarter net income alone rose 29% to P6.4 billion from the same period in 2024, nearly doubling the year-on-year growth recorded for the first half.
Net interest income, a key profit driver, increased 7% to P25.8 billion. This was supported by a 5% expansion in loans and an 11% rise in investment securities.
Net service fees and commission income also saw a substantial 24% increase to P2.8 billion, primarily from deposit transactions, credit cards, and the bank’s bancassurance business, reflecting intensified cross-selling efforts.
PNB’s performance was further bolstered by a 64% jump in gains from trading securities and foreign exchange operations, reaching P1.4 billion year-on-year.
Operating expenses, excluding provisions for impairment and credit losses, grew 9%, a consequence of higher business taxes and other business-related costs linked to robust revenue growth.
As of June 30, 2025, PNB’s total assets stood at 1.29 trillion. Deposit liabilities surpassed the P1 trillion mark for the first time, largely comprising low-cost current and savings accounts (CASA), underscoring the bank’s strong market position.
“The double-digit growth in profitability is a clear indication that the various strategic initiatives that were put in place are gaining traction,” said PNB president and CEO Edwin Bautista.
He added that the bank plans to “unlock new revenue streams” through technology, including data science and AI, and strategic partnerships.
