The PhilSA has test deployed satellite technology to further serve unbanked areas in the countryside.
PhilSA and the BSP has started the test runof satellite internet services with the Progressive Bank of Malvar and Rural Bank of Cuenca in Batangas for financial inclusion.
PhilSA cited the need for internet connectivity to serve unbanked areas in the Philippines. PhilSA also added that for remote areas, tower satellites are not economical.
Currenl, internet in the Philippines is made of fiber optic lines and towers. The said project aims to improve connectivity in far-flung areas, and is modeled after the famous BriSat of Indonesia.
