The Philippine peso strengthened to the 57-level against the US dollar on Monday, buoyed by fundamental support from record-high remittance inflows that hit an all-time peak in 2025.
The peso closed at 57.98 against the greenback, a slight appreciation from Friday’s finish of 58.02. The currency showed resilience throughout the session, opening at 57.95 before reaching an intraday high of 57.91.
Data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas showed that December remittances rose 4.2% year-on-year to $3.52 billion, bringing the full-year 2025 total to a record $35.63 billion.
“The record-high holiday remittances provided a fundamental cushion for the peso,” said Michael Ricafort, chief economist at Rizal Commercial Banking Corp (RCBC).
