By day, they build and run Maya’s digital banking and payments businesses. On the football field, they went undefeated.
Maya’s employee team won all nine matches to capture the Corporate Division 3 Cup of the Corporate Football League 2026, beating Shopee 3-1 in the final at the Atleta ’63 Turf Field in Pasig City.
The squad scored 31 goals and conceded just three during its July-to-August campaign.
Made up of employees from product development, engineering, technology, data science, consumer business, credit, enterprise, partnerships, marketing and corporate affairs, Maya beat UnionBank, Wells Fargo, Shopee, GCash, JPMorgan Chase, RCM and Globe during the tournament.
It defeated UnionBank 2-0 in the semifinals before taking down Shopee for the title.
“We came from very different teams across Maya, but on the pitch everyone had one priority: do what the team needed,” said co-captain Mohamed Omar Mahmoud, a senior strategic partnerships officer at Maya.
“People showed up, trained hard and trusted one another. Going 9–0 was special, but the best part was winning it together,” he said.
Maya Group Chief People Officer Charee Lanza said the company encourages sports and other shared activities to give employees opportunities to stay active and connect outside their regular work.
The Corporate Football League is an amateur competition that brings together teams from companies and organizations across different industries.
