No proxies here: Nestor Tan, TG Limcaoco personally attend BSP awards

When the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas called on its most valued institutional partners, two of the country’s top banking executives made sure to be there in person.

BDO Unibank president and CEO Nestor Tan and Bank of the Philippine Islands president and CEO TG Limcaoco personally attended the 2026 Outstanding BSP Stakeholders Appreciation Ceremony, where their banks were recognized for their contributions to the central bank’s programs.

BDO and BPI joined Union Bank of the Philippines among the 14 institutions honored by the BSP, putting three of the country’s major lenders on this year’s roster of outstanding partners.

Also recognized were BPI Direct BanKo, BDO Foundation, ATRAM Trust Corp. and DragonFi Securities Inc., along with government agencies and industry organizations.

The awards covered a broad range of collaborations with the central bank, from expanding financial inclusion and literacy to improving access to retirement savings through the Personal Equity Retirement Account.

The BSP also recognized work supporting QR PH digital payments and the introduction of tap-to-pay turnstiles for MRT-3 commuters.

Other partnerships helped strengthen currency circulation through the Cash Service Alliance and combat counterfeiting, fraud and money laundering, while some awardees contributed to policy development.

“The bayanihan spirit is alive and well among you. No single institution can build a strong financial system on its own. But, shoulder to shoulder, we can achieve more than any of us can do alone,” BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr. said.

Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the partnerships showed that the strength of the financial system goes beyond economic indicators.

“Your efforts remind us that a strong financial system is not measured by indicators alone. It is measured by the opportunities it creates, the confidence it builds, and the better lives it helps make possible,” she said.
