Metrobank: Watch out for fake calls and screen sharing requests

Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) has issued a public advisory warning customers about the rise of vishing scams, where fraudsters impersonate legitimate bank representatives to trick individuals into revealing sensitive banking information.

The bank emphasized that simply knowing a customer’s name or basic personal details does not confirm a caller’s legitimacy.

According to Metrobank, scammers are now using increasingly deceptive tactics, such as asking to switch phone calls to messaging apps under the guise of providing better assistance.

Once there, they may initiate video calls or request screen sharing, allowing them to steal personal information.

These fraudsters also often impersonate trusted figures and create a false sense of urgency, pressuring potential victims into acting quickly.

In some cases, they offer fake rewards or claim that suspicious activity or fees have been detected on a customer’s account—claims that come with the condition that personal data be provided to resolve the issue.

Metrobank reminded customers that it will never ask for confidential details such as passcodes, PINs, OTPs, or AppKey approvals.

While legitimate bank representatives may confirm certain transactions, they will never request authentication information.

The bank advised customers to be cautious of calls that use pressure tactics or appear overly urgent. If a caller insists on immediate action or asks for private details, customers should hang up and contact Metrobank through official channels.

The bank also urged the public not to place their trust in unsolicited calls, even if the caller appears to know personal information.

With scams becoming more sophisticated, Metrobank continues to ramp up efforts to educate its customers and protect them from fraud.
