Metrobank taps ex-Sun Life CEO Benedict Sison as new independent director

Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. of the Ty family has appointed former Sun Life Philippines chief executive Benedict C. Sison as its newest independent director.

In a disclosure, Metrobank said Sison was elected to the board effective May 20, filling the seat vacated by Jose Vicente L. Alde, who resigned to focus on his role as president of Philippine Savings Bank, Metrobank’s thrift banking arm.

Sison immediately takes on a key governance post as chairman of Metrobank’s audit committee. He was also named a regular member of the related party transactions committee and risk oversight committee.

Sison retired as CEO and country head of Sun Life Philippines effective April 1, 2026, after a 15-year career with the insurer. Sison transitioned to strategic advisor and chairman of Sun Life Philippines Holding Company and the Sun Life Foundation.

Alde leaves the Metrobank board after four years but remains within the group as PSBank president.
