Metrobank, Mastercard make every swipe count for the planet as they extend tree-planting initiative

Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. has partnered with Mastercard to allow cardholders to support tree-planting efforts through card spending and rewards redemptions under the Priceless Causes initiative.

The program, which runs until Dec. 31, 2026, extends environmental participation beyond Philippine Environment Month in June.

Under the initiative, Mastercard credit cardholders can redeem 8,000 rewards points to fund the planting of four trees, which may be processed through the Metrobank app or via SMS, the bank said.

In June, Metrobank Mastercard debit and credit cardholders were also able to contribute to reforestation efforts through purchases, with every 2,000 pesos spent on June 30 equivalent to one tree planted.

Tree-planting activities will be managed by Conservation International, a nonprofit focused on environmental conservation and sustainable development.

“This partnership lets everyday spending do something more meaningful. It’s our way of helping customers not just manage their finances, but also support causes that matter, making impact part of daily life,” said Gail Male, head of Metrobank Credit Cards, Personal Loans and Digital Channels Group.

“We are happy to partner with Metrobank and enable their clients to make a positive impact on the environment. Together with Metrobank, we are turning everyday purchases into opportunities to support reforestation and create lasting impact,” Mastercard Country Manager Jason Crasto said.

Mastercard’s Priceless Causes initiative links consumers, financial institutions and organizations to social and environmental projects, allowing participation through everyday financial activity.

Metrobank said customers may take part by using their Metrobank Mastercard for purchases or by redeeming eligible rewards points via the Metrobank app.
