Metrobank eyes P5 billion ASEAN sustainability bond sale

Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) is preparing to tap the local debt market with its first ASEAN Sustainability peso‑denominated fixed‑rate bonds, aiming to raise at least ₱5 billion with an oversubscription option.

The notes will carry a tenor of 1.5 years, with timing subject to market conditions.

The offering, approved by president Fabian Dee on March 3, 2026, comes under Metrobank’s ₱154.5 billion bond program and is part of a broader ₱200 billion issuance framework cleared by the board in December 2021.

Proceeds will diversify funding sources and support lending operations, with allocations tied to eligible assets under the bank’s Sustainable Finance Framework.

Metrobank, rated Baa2 (Stable) by Moody’s and BBB‑ (Stable) by Fitch, has tapped First Metro Investment Corp., ING Bank N.V. Manila Branch and Standard Chartered Bank as joint lead managers and bookrunners.

The deal marks Metrobank’s entry into the fast‑growing ASEAN sustainability bond market, where issuers are increasingly turning to ESG‑linked instruments to broaden investor appeal and align with global financing trends.
