Metrobank closes 2025 with record P49.7B net income and bigger dividend

Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) capped 2025 with a record net income of P49.7 billion, driven by solid lending, strong trading gains and tight cost control as it rewarded shareholders with a higher dividend.

Pre-provision operating profit climbed 17.1 percent to P78.4 billion, reflecting improved core earnings even as the bank continued to invest in expansion.

Net interest income rose 9.2 percent to P124.6 billion, tracking an 8.8 percent increase in gross loans. Lending to corporate and commercial clients expanded 7.4 percent, while consumer loans outpaced the rest of the portfolio with 13.9 percent growth.

Total deposits inched up to P2.7 trillion, with low-cost current and savings accounts making up 59.2 percent of the base. The loan-to-deposit ratio stood at 74.9 percent, signaling room to extend further credit.

Non-interest income likewise strengthened, increasing 11.6 percent to P33.5 billion. Fee and trust income grew 6 percent to P19.2 billion, while trading and foreign exchange income surged 47.2 percent to P8.2 billion on the back of strong customer flows and favorable market conditions.

Operating expenses were kept in check, rising only 3.3 percent year-on-year to P79.7 billion. This helped bring down the cost-to-income ratio to 50.7 percent from 53.8 percent in 2024.

Asset quality indicators remained better than the industry average. The bank’s non-performing loan ratio stood at 1.7 percent, lower than the industry’s 3.2 percent, while its NPL cover ratio reached 140.8 percent.

Metrobank’s balance sheet continued to expand, with total consolidated assets rising 10.2 percent to P3.88 trillion as of end-2025. Total equity grew 9.4 percent to P421.7 billion.

Capital and liquidity buffers stayed well above regulatory thresholds. The bank reported a capital adequacy ratio of 16.8 percent and a common equity tier 1 ratio of 16.1 percent, both exceeding minimum requirements set by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Its liquidity coverage ratio stood at 181.7 percent.

“This full year performance reflects the trust of our clients, the dedication of our people and our commitment to disciplined growth,” Metrobank president Fabian S. Dee said.
