MBC welcomes economic appointments of incoming administration

The Makati Business Club (MBC) welcomed the composition of the economic team under the incoming administration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The organization lauded the appointment of Arsenio Balisacan as the next Socioeconomic Planning Secretary as well as National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) director general, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Benjamin Diokno as secretary of the Department of Finance (DOF), Alfredo Pascual as the head of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as well as BSP Monetary Board Member Felipe Medalla as the new governor of the central bank.

MBC executive director Coco Alcuaz said that the appointment of these experienced, well-known leaders should boost the confidence of local and foreign businesses, from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to big players, that the income administration will promote liberalizing but inclusive policies to accelerate job creation, competition, and economic recovery.

“As the first economic czar who has headed the two other big economic agencies — DBM and BSP — Governor Diokno will have rare insight on how the government and private sector work together to boost jobs and growth,” Alcuaz said.

MBC also welcomed the appointments of Manuel Bonoan as the head of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Bienvenido Laguesma as the secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Susan Ople as chief of the new Department of Migrant Workers.

“We look forward to succeeding appointments in the economic team,” the group added.
