Maya, the Philippines’ leading digital bank, is set to reduce its base savings rate to 3.0% per annum from the previous 3.5%, effective April 1, 2026.
The 50-basis-point cut marks a strategic shift in the digital lender’s yield structure as the broader financial sector navigates a high-interest-rate environment and a record-low peso.
Despite the reduction in the base tier, Maya confirmed that its flagship “boosted interest” feature will remain unchanged.
Users can still unlock yields of up to 15% p.a. on eligible balances, though these high-interest returns continue to be capped at a ₱100,000 threshold.
The move highlights a growing trend among digital banks to transition from aggressive customer acquisition via high base rates toward “gamified” loyalty structures.
To access the top 15% tier, depositors must typically engage in specific ecosystem behaviors, such as bill payments or merchant transactions.
