Martial Law Victim: Netizens discover EastWest Bank’s prexy’s experiences during Marcos Era

After his #ProudDad post went viral on social media, East West Banking Corp. bankero Tony Moncupa’s experience during martial law resurfaced online.

On Facebook, netizens reshared his post from 2015, where the bankero uploaded a letter he received regarding the state’s compensation for Martial Law victims like him.

One netizen shared: “TILR: Victims of Martial Law atrocities has a pointing system for how much they will receive as compensation for the human rights violations and injustices happened in the Marcos era.”

Each point corresponds to how heavy the human rights violation experienced. This is still under evaluation.

“One point is equivalent to P25,000. And taxable pa ata”

Another gave more context and narrated his story during the Marcos regime.

“Gusto nyo uli ng trivia? Si Mr Tony Moncupa Jr. ng East West Bank ay isa ring political detainee noong panahon ni Macoy. Natorture at nakulong noong 1982 to 1984. Isa siya sa mga recipient ng $2 billion Marcos settlement for political detainees na nilitigate at naipanalo ng mga biktima ng Martial Law sa US.”
