Bank of the Philippine Islands’ (BPI) Senior Vice President for Consumer Bank Marketing Mariana Zobel de Ayala is now part of the Global Board of Directors of U-Go, a scholarship grant for high-achieving Filipino women enrolled in state colleges and universities.
The bankero is an eighth-generation member of the Ayala Family.
“The issue of education equality for women is as much about empowering women as it is about building the most capable economy possible for the Philippines, to ensure our collective progress as a nation,” the bankero said.
U-Go partnered with Ayala Foundation to raise funds and identify deserving scholars, and the program raised over P40 million to provide scholarships to the initial class of 100.
The program is planning to expand to at least 1,000 recipients in the medium term.
Meanwhile, the conglomerate said that this partnership with U-Go continues Ayala’s legacy of empowering women through education.
