Listed insurance firm bags outstanding gender-inclusivity award

The Security and Exchange Commission’s Gender and Development (SEC GAD) has awarded listed National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines (Nat Re) with “Most Women Directors” for its outstanding gender-inclusivity as a publicly listed company.

The country’s national reinsurer bagged the award together with BHI Holdings Inc. and Monde Nissin Corp. The publicly listed companies were feted as they have the Most Women Directors, “thereby giving life to longstanding recommendation that boards should endeavor to be as diverse as possible, gender wise, among others.”

Nat Re president and CEO Allan Santos said the company has always stood strongly for good corporate governance.

Last year, Nat Re was also recognized by the Institute of Corporate Directors as one of the country’s top Insurance Commission-regulated companies based on the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard.

“And for us, vital to good governance is a welcoming workplace that promotes gender diversity and inclusivity. With such culture, we bring out the best in people, promote collaboration, and encourage the healthy exchange of various perspectives,” Santos said.

Nat Re was honored virtually at the SEC Gender and Development Awarding: Recognizing the Role of Women in the Corporate World that aimed to recognize the role of women in the corporate world and companies’ good corporate governance practices on board diversity for having empowered women on their boards, in line with the celebration of Women’s Month.

Gender inclusivity and diversity is a crucial component of Nat Re’s corporate governance direction, which aspires toward the achievement of business goals while staying compliant with the law, meeting the highest ethical standards, and being guided by the company’s principles.

Women compose over 60 percent of all Nat Re employees, and almost 40 percent of its Board of Directors.
