JICA commits 4G trains for the LRT-1 Cavite extension line

So-called fourth generation or 4G trains are forthcoming for commuters using the LRT-1 Cavite extension line when the project is completed, according to the Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA which has funded the project.

At the completion of civil works, buildings and facilities for the line in Pasay City on Wednesday, Japanese Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko said the 4G trains are designed to shorten time travel from Baclaran to Bacoor in only 25 minutes from the usual one-hour drive at present.

“I am upbeat that this LRT-1 extension project will make a big difference in the lives of many Filipinos in Cavite and surrounding areas. Soon, they will be able to embark on a more comfortable journey once the brand-new 4th generation train sets, also funded by Japan, hit the tracks of the LRT-1 extension,” he said.

“Today’s milestone is just one of the many others that resulted from our continued commitment,” the diplomat quickly added.

He stressed that Japan firmly committed support to the Philippines in its bid to advance its infrastructure and that the government of Japan formally reaffirmed this commitment during the recently held Japan-Philippines High-Level Joint Committee Meeting.
