Jason Crasto takes helm of Mastercard Philippines

Mastercard has named payments executive Jason Crasto as its new country manager for the Philippines, a move the company said will strengthen its commitment to advancing the nation’s digital payments agenda.

Crasto, who has more than 20 years of experience in the payments and financial services industry, will oversee Mastercard’s strategic and operational priorities in the local market. His focus will include expanding collaboration with government agencies and private institutions to increase access to secure and inclusive digital payment solutions.

Safdar Khan, division president for Southeast Asia at Mastercard, said Crasto’s appointment reflects the company’s ambition to play a larger role in the Philippines’ digital transformation.

“Jason’s leadership and industry expertise will be pivotal as Mastercard deepens its role as a trusted partner in the Philippines’ digital transformation journey,” Khan said.

“With his extensive payments experience and passion for driving inclusive, innovation-led growth, we are confident that Jason will build on our strong foundations and drive the next chapter of growth for Mastercard in the Philippines.”

Crasto joined Mastercard in 2020 and has since managed key client relationships, product portfolios, and innovation initiatives across consumer, commercial, and digital payments. He previously worked with global payment networks, banks, and loyalty platforms, focusing on product management and business development.

“I am honored to oversee Mastercard’s business in the Philippines and contribute to the country’s digital growth,” Crasto said. “I look forward to working with our talented and dedicated Mastercard team, as well as our customers and partners to deliver innovative payments solutions that empower Filipinos, and help build a more connected, secure, and inclusive digital future for the Philippines. I’m also excited to immerse myself in the local community and experience the country’s vibrant culture.”

The appointment comes as digital payments continue to reshape the Philippine financial landscape. Data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas showed that 57 percent of retail transactions in 2024 were made digitally, highlighting strong momentum in the shift toward cashless payments.

Mastercard said Crasto’s regional experience in building digital ecosystems across South Asia positions him to sustain this growth and drive further innovation in the Philippine market.

Crasto holds a master’s degree in finance from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies and a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics.
