Iloilo City adopts Paleng-QR Ph Plus to promote digital payments

Iloilo City officially introduced the “Paleng-QR Ph Plus” program, advocating for digital payments in public markets and local transportation.

The event, led by City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, included participation from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Visayas Regional Office (VRO) Director Anna Clara M. Oville and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region VI Assistant Regional Director Maria Calpiza J. Sardua.

The initiative, supported by financial service providers, is the 15th of its kind, following other cities such as Baguio, Davao, and Pasig, and is aligned with the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion 2022-2028, promoting the use of QR Ph for secure and efficient transactions in various establishments.

Additionally, as part of the launch, Ilonggos had the opportunity to exchange unfit or mutilated banknotes and coins for fit currency or electronic money at the BSP’s “Piso Caravan,” a component of the BSP’s efforts to maintain currency integrity and enhance coin recirculation in the country.
