Are the Philippines’ bank secrecy rules eroding or simply evolving?
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) put the changing landscape of bank secrecy under the spotlight in a briefing for bankers and financial industry professionals.
BSP Deputy Governor Elmore Capule, General Counsel Roberto Figueroa and Legal Officer IV Richard Armand Angeles discussed the legal and regulatory framework governing bank secrecy during the Sept. 15 online forum attended by 178 participants.
The webinar, titled “Erosion or Evolution? The Changing Landscape of Bank Secrecy Laws,” was organized by the Governance, Legal and Regulatory Committee of the Bankers Institute of the Philippines Inc. (BAIPHIL).
“Their direct involvement in financial regulation and policy provided participants with authoritative perspectives on the evolving legal and regulatory framework governing bank secrecy,” BAIPHIL said.
