Hit by dengue, farm pests? GSIS opens P520M loan facility in La Union, Negors Occidental

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has allocated P520.08 million in emergency loans for more than 21,000 members and pensioners affected by a dengue outbreak in La Union and an agricultural pest infestation in Negros Occidental.

The state pension fund said 21,153 eligible active members and old-age and disability pensioners could apply for the loans.

Eligible borrowers in Bagulin, La Union, where a state of public health emergency has been declared due to a dengue outbreak, have until Aug. 16 to apply.

In Negros Occidental, applications will be accepted until Aug. 14 after the province was placed under a state of calamity due to an outbreak of red-striped soft scale insects affecting sugarcane plantations.

Active GSIS members must work or reside in the affected areas and have no loan payments overdue by more than six months. They must also not be on unpaid leave, have paid at least three months of premiums within the past six months and maintain a monthly take-home pay of at least P5,000 after deductions.

Applicants must also have no pending administrative or criminal case.

Old-age and disability pensioners residing in the affected areas are eligible provided at least 25% of their monthly pension remains after loan deductions and they have no emergency loan payments overdue by more than six months.

The emergency loan is payable over 36 months at a fixed annual interest rate of 6%, with no processing or service fees.

Applications may be submitted through the GSIS Touch mobile application, with approved loan proceeds credited directly to borrowers’ ATM accounts.
