Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has refunded P9.06 billion in loan amortizations to more than 500,000 members and pensioners under the expanded Balik Ginhawa 2 loan relief program within 24 days of its rollout.
The refunds were released under Balik Ginhawa 2, which allows qualified borrowers to recover previously paid monthly loan amortizations while continuing to repay their loans under the original terms through an equivalent extension of the loan period.
Including the original Balik Ginhawa program, GSIS said it has now refunded more than P18 billion in loan amortizations to qualified members and pensioners. The original program was implemented over about three months, while Balik Ginhawa 2 reached the P9-billion mark in less than a month.
GSIS has also added a feature to its GSIS Touch mobile application that allows members and pensioners who received only a partial refund to check whether they remain eligible for additional refunds and submit an application.
“Through this feature, we are making sure that those who are still entitled to a refundable amount can easily verify their eligibility and receive the remaining benefit due them,” GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso said.
Balik Ginhawa 2 expanded the program’s coverage from three to as many as six monthly loan amortizations. In addition to eligible payments made from December 2025 to February 2026 under the original program, the expanded version also covers eligible payments made from March to May 2026, subject to the program’s terms.
GSIS said participation in the program remains voluntary, with refunds credited directly to members’ designated GSIS bank accounts.
The pension fund said the mobile app enhancement is part of its efforts to streamline services and improve access to financial relief for government employees and pensioners.
