The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has raised its funeral benefit for government workers and qualified pensioners to P50,000 from P30,000, effective for deaths occurring on or after July 13.
The increase, approved by the GSIS Board of Trustees, comes as funeral expenses continue to rise and is intended to provide additional financial support to bereaved families.
“Effective July 13, 2026, the GSIS funeral benefit has been increased from P30,000 to P50,000 for eligible funeral claims, following the approval of the GSIS Board of Trustees. The increase aims to provide greater financial assistance to bereaved families amid rising funeral costs,” the state pension fund said in a statement.
The funeral benefit helps cover burial and funeral expenses of deceased members, pensioners and retirees covered under Republic Act No. 660, Republic Act No. 1616, Presidential Decree No. 1146 and Republic Act No. 8291.
The benefit is payable in the following order of priority: the legitimate spouse, a legitimate child who paid for the funeral services, or any other person who can provide proof that he or she shouldered the funeral expenses of the deceased.
