GSIS partners with San Miguel Foods to offer low-cost business packages for members

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and San Miguel Foods (SMF) have launched a strategic partnership to convert the nation’s two million civil servants into a new class of micro-entrepreneurs, offering business entry points for as little as ₱2,000.

The agreement, signed Wednesday at the GSIS headquarters in Pasay City, creates a dedicated pipeline for government workers, pensioners, and their dependents to access SMFI’s established retail and livelihood ecosystems.

This initiative comes as state employees seek additional income streams to navigate rising living costs.

GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso said the program supports the institution’s goal of improving financial resilience for government workers.

Participants can begin with modest starter kits focused on high-turnover consumer goods like Purefoods and Magnolia products or graduate to larger opportunities such as food carts and specialized baking programs.

Members can start reselling products for as little as P2,000.

To bridge the capital gap, GSIS is tethering the program to its Ginhawa Go micro-lending facility. This integration allows members to secure seed funding directly through the GSIS Touch mobile app.
