GSIS opens emergency loan applications for public workers, pensioners amid typhoon threats

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is now accepting applications for emergency loans from active members and old-age and disability pensioners nationwide, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s declaration of a nationwide state of calamity due to Typhoon Tino and in preparation for Typhoon Uwan.

“As our kababayans reel from the wide devastation of Typhoon Tino and as we brace for more calamities due to La Niña, the rapid financial relief for our public sector workers and retirees becomes more critical. To support fast recovery and rebuilding, GSIS is supporting President Marcos’s goal to widen and expedite access to our emergency loans for those most affected,” said GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso.

Eligible active members must not be on unpaid leave, have at least three months of paid premiums within the last six months, have no pending administrative or criminal cases, no overdue loans beyond six months, and a minimum take-home pay of Php 5,000 after deductions.

Pensioners may apply if at least 25 percent of their basic monthly pension remains after deductions.

New applicants may borrow up to P20,000, while members with existing loans may borrow up to P40,000, with balances deducted to ensure a maximum net amount of P20,000.

Applications are encouraged via the GSIS Touch mobile app to expedite processing and disbursement. The loan program runs from Nov. 7, 2025, to Feb. 7, 2026, with repayment spread over 36 equal monthly installments at 6 percent per annum.

A loan redemption insurance pays the balance in full upon the borrower’s death, provided payments are current.
