GSIS mobilizes emergency loans for Davao earthquake victims

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said it is ready to provide financial assistance to active members and pensioners affected by the twin earthquakes in Davao Oriental.

“We are closely monitoring the situation in Davao and stand ready to provide immediate financial assistance to help our members and pensioners recover from the effects of the earthquakes,” said GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso.

Under the GSIS Emergency Loan Program, eligible members and pensioners in affected areas can borrow up to ₱40,000 if they already have an emergency loan, or up to ₱20,000 if they do not. Loans carry a 6% annual interest rate and are repayable over 36 months, with the first payment due after three months.

Veloso said the agency continues to process applications quickly through digital channels, including the GSIS Touch mobile app, GWAPS kiosks, and over-the-counter services, with proceeds credited directly to members’ GSIS ATM cards.

GSIS is also working with local governments to assess insured government properties, expedite insurance claims, and ensure the restoration of public services.

Earlier this month, GSIS released more than ₱346 million in emergency loans to over 12,000 members and pensioners in Cebu following a strong earthquake.

“Just as we did in Cebu, GSIS will ensure that our members and pensioners in Davao receive the support they need to recover quickly,” Veloso said.
