GSIS lending jumps to P413B on strong demand from members

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has released a total of ₱413.4 billion ($7.05 billion) in loans under its Ginhawa Flex and Ginhawa Lite programs, benefiting 1.9 million members.

GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso said the disbursements include ₱401.19 billion under Ginhawa Flex, the agency’s flagship multi-purpose loan program launched in September 2023, and ₱12.25 billion under Ginhawa Lite, introduced in October 2024.

Ginhawa Flex allows government workers to borrow up to ₱5 million or 14 times their monthly salary, with terms of up to 15 years, depending on paid premiums. Ginhawa Lite offers smaller loans of ₱5,000 to ₱50,000, payable over 6 to 24 months, with interest rates of 6–7%.

Both loan programs are accessible via the GSIS Touch mobile app, part of the agency’s push to digitize services.

Veloso said 99% of GSIS transactions are now processed online, citing initiatives such as in-app facial recognition, digital IDs, and self-service digital hubs.

“More than disbursements, these numbers represent real relief and support for public servants,” Veloso said during a stakeholders’ forum.

The agency also announced enhancements to its Ginhawa Max Loan Buyout program, including a simplified application process requiring only a letter of intent from the agency head.

The loan offers up to ₱5 million or 19 times salary, with no service fees and interest rates as low as 6%, repayable over 10 years.

Separately, GSIS said more than 4,000 families have acquired homes through its Lease-With-Option-to-Buy program, while nearly 2,000 borrowers have retained their properties under the Housing Accounts Remedial and Condonation Program.

GSIS also reported expanded coverage under its National Indemnity Insurance Program, now protecting over 130,000 public school buildings.
