GSIS assures members of fund safety amid P1 billion DigiPlus investment scrutiny

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability amid scrutiny over its P1 billion investment in DigiPlus Interactive Corp., saying it is ready to cooperate with oversight institutions and regulatory bodies.

“We welcome the scrutiny and call for public disclosure from various sectors, and we are prepared to present all relevant documents and data to the appropriate authorities,” the state pension fund said in a statement.

“As stewards of public trust, we affirm our unwavering commitment to act in the best interests of our members and pensioners.”

GSIS’s investment in DigiPlus—a company involved in gaming and digital entertainment—has recently drawn attention from some quarters due to the perceived risks involved.

The agency emphasized that all investment decisions are made in line with its mandate.

The pension fund assured members, pensioners, and the public that its Social Insurance Fund remains “strong, secure, and actuarially sound.”

As of June 2025, GSIS reported total assets of ₱1.88 trillion and a net operating income of ₱76.82 billion, a 31% increase from the same period last year. It added that it has maintained a five-year average return on investments of 6.75%.

“In light of recent developments, GSIS will continue to comprehensively review its charter, investment policies, risk exposure thresholds, and sectoral guidelines, particularly those involving sensitive or high-risk industries,” the fund said.

“This will ensure alignment with our members’ evolving expectations and the highest standards of ethical and fiduciary responsibility.”
