GCash has partnered with De La Salle University (DLSU) to introduce a fintech engineering elective aimed at preparing students for careers in the Philippines’ digital economy.
The NextGen Tech Builders Program will give DLSU undergraduate students hands-on training in technologies used to build and operate large-scale digital platforms, including Java, Spring Boot, cloud computing and microservices.
Classes will begin on Sept. 3 as part of DLSU’s first academic term.
GCash will provide course materials and cloud-based laboratory environments, while students will complete a fintech capstone project focused on real-world applications.
“Technology talent is critical to the continued growth of the digital economy, and we believe that developing that talent should begin well before students enter the workforce,” Mynt Chief People Officer Robert Gonzales said in a statement.
Mynt operates GCash.
The elective builds on GCash’s technology cadetship program by bringing industry training into the university curriculum. Students who complete the course will also have access to fast-tracked pathways for technical roles at GCash.
DLSU College of Computer Studies Dean Ethel Ong said the collaboration would complement students’ academic foundations with practical skills needed in the technology sector.
“Through this collaboration with GCash, we are creating opportunities for our students to learn directly from industry practices and better prepare for meaningful careers in fintech and technology,” Ong said.
GCash and DLSU said the program aims to help develop more locally trained fintech engineers as demand for technology professionals grows.
