From rising star to economic superstar: HSBC’s vision for the Philippines

HSBC Philippines is reinforcing its commitment to transforming the nation into a leading investment hub within ASEAN, as economic forecasts indicate robust growth ahead.

President and CEO Sandeep Uppal emphasized the critical role of private sector and government collaboration in driving this progress. “As a global bank with deep local expertise, we are dedicated to acting as a bridge to unlock opportunities for development,” he said, expressing optimism about the Philippines’ ascent from ASEAN’s Rising Star to Asia’s Superstar.

Corrie Purisima, Head of Markets and Securities Services at HSBC Philippines, shared insights from HSBC Global Research, predicting Philippine GDP growth could reach 6.7% by 2026. This projection positions the Philippines as a potential frontrunner in regional growth.

Purisima noted a significant increase in services exports, which are now outpacing international remittances, while foreign direct investments are on track for historic levels of approval.

HSBC Philippines identifies three key factors driving this expansion: economic strength, population growth, and trade liberalization, all of which enhance the country’s appeal for new investments and the expansion of existing businesses.

Mimi Concha, Head of Wholesale Banking at HSBC Philippines, reinforced the bank’s broader mission of economic growth. “We pride ourselves on going above and beyond, whether it’s collaborating with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority to uncover foreign investment opportunities or supporting government trade missions,” she said.

Concha pointed out that HSBC’s efforts are not just beneficial for the Philippines but also create extensive opportunities for clients seeking growth.

As HSBC Philippines continues to solidify its role as a key player in the nation’s economic landscape, its focus on collaboration and investment facilitation is critical. With nearly 150 years in the country, HSBC’s blend of local knowledge and global reach positions it well to help the Philippines realize its ambitions on the regional and global stage.
