Former ChinaBank economist Domini Velasquez takes charge of Economic Analysis at DOF

Domini S. Velasquez, previously the chief economist at China Banking Corp., is stepping into a new role this week at the Department of Finance (DOF), where she will head the Office of the Chief Economist (OCE).

The DOF made the announcement of Velasquez’s appointment, highlighting her extensive experience in economic analysis gained from her past positions at both the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and Chinabank.

Established in 2013, the OCE operates under the Office of the Secretary, with a primary focus on monitoring economic trends and implementing preemptive measures to address potential vulnerabilities in the Philippine economy.

Velasquez, who holds bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics from Ateneo de Manila University and master’s degrees in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore and in International Migration and Public Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science, brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role.

Prior to her stint at Chinabank, Velasquez held various positions at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Citibank, and also provided consulting services to the Asian Development Bank.

Her appointment follows the departure of Finance Undersecretary Zeno Ronald R. Abenoja, who is returning to his role at the BSP after serving temporarily at the DOF.
