Fintech Alliance.PH welcomes Eli Remolona’s appointment as BSP governor

Fintech Alliance.PH, a collaborative initiative among key players in the digital finance sector in the Philippines, expressed its appreciation for the appointment of Eli Remolona as the new Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

In a statement, the alliance commended Governor Remolona’s extensive global experience, which holds immense potential for driving the country’s progression towards a thriving digital economy.

“We look forward to fostering sustained collaboration with the BSP under his guidance. We believe that we can collectively drive innovation, cultivate a vibrant ecosystem, and shape policies that facilitate the growth of the digital and fintech industry in the Philippines,” said Bankero Lito Villanueva, Chairman of Fintech Alliance.PH and Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation and Inclusion Officer of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC).

With a notable background in central banking policy, Remolona boasts a 14-year tenure at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, followed by 19 years of service at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

Prior to assuming the role at BSP, Remolona served as an Independent Director of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and chaired the Risk Management Committee.

The Fintech Alliance.PH emphasized that Remolona’s impressive financial and digital transformation expertise positions him to make a significant impact on the fintech and digital industry landscape in the Philippines.
