Fighting misinformation head-on: GSIS, PGEA launch Speakers’ Bureau

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Philippine Government Employees Association (PGEA) launched the GSIS-PGEA Speakers’ Bureau on May 7 and 8 to educate government workers on their benefits and address concerns.

The initial training, titled “Totoo Tayo: PGEA x GSIS, Laban sa Fake News,” aimed to equip PGEA leaders with knowledge of GSIS programs to ensure accurate information dissemination and prepare them as GSIS ambassadors in their respective workplaces.

“Fake news is rampant, and we want our members to know the truth,” GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso said during the event. “This partnership with PGEA helps us share verified information about GSIS projects and gather feedback to improve our services.”

PGEA national president Esperanza Ocampo said the initiative aims to protect government employees by fostering awareness and support for GSIS programs.

The speakers’ bureau is part of a broader collaboration formalized in June 2024, following a memorandum of understanding between the two organizations. The two-day training covered GSIS’s mandate, membership, benefits, and presentation skills.

Twenty-seven participants from various government offices in Luzon and Mindanao completed the program. Similar sessions will be held in other regions. Those who pass the evaluation will become official GSIS and PGEA spokespersons, conducting further trainings under the guidance of both organizations.
