Familiar face, new position? Roxas rumored for Foreign Secretary post in Marcos admin

Bankers and industry insiders are buzzing with speculation about former Senator Mar Roxas potentially joining the Marcos administration, not as a legislator but as a cabinet member.

Roxas, who previously served as a member of the Monetary Board, is reportedly not seeking re-election to the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections. Instead, he might be taking on a new role within the government.

Sources suggest that Roxas is being considered to replace current Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo, potentially with the backing of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Roxas and Romualdez have a familial connection. His mother Judith “Judy” Araneta-Roxas is a first cousin of First Lady Liza Araneta, making them second cousins. Additionally, Romualdez is a cousin of President Marcos.

This is not the first time Roxas’ name has surfaced in connection with the Marcos administration. He was previously considered for the position of Secretary of Agriculture last year.
