Chinabank (CBC), led by the Sy family, rejoined the 30-member Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) on Monday (February 3) following a year of record earnings and strong market performance.
The PSEi, which tracks the 30 most representative companies on the local bourse, serves as a key indicator of market trends and investor sentiment.
“We are honored to again be part of the PSEi after more than a decade. The growing investor interest in our stock reflects confidence in our long-term vision and our ability to execute our strategic initiatives,” Chinabank president and CEO Romeo Uyan Jr. said.
The bank’s stock price surged over 100% in 2024, driven by solid financial results. As of September 2024, Chinabank ranked as the fourth-largest private universal bank in the Philippines, with P1.6 trillion in total assets and a net income of P18.4 billion.
Chinabank was the 13th most profitable company in the country in 2023 and the 18th largest by market capitalization as of January 31, 2025.
Chief finance officer Patrick Cheng highlighted the bank’s steady expansion. “Our profitability and capital efficiency have been improving the past years and we remain focused on ensuring good progress on our digital transformation and product and process enhancements.”
Companies included in the index must meet stringent liquidity and market capitalization criteria, with at least 20% of their shares available for public trading.
Chinabank was previously part of the PSEi from May 2010 to May 2011. Its return to the benchmark index underscores investor confidence in its growth trajectory and financial resilience.
