Chinabank posts record P28 billion profit as loans top P1 trillion

China Banking Corp. posted a record net income of P28 billion in 2025, fueled by double-digit loan growth and higher operating revenue.

Earnings rose 13 percent from 2024, pushing return on equity to 15.6 percent and return on assets to 1.6 percent, among the strongest in the Philippine banking sector.

Chinabank’s loan book exceeded P1 trillion for the first time, up 13 percent to P1.1 trillion on sustained corporate and consumer demand. Interest income climbed 12 percent to P105.2 billion, while non-interest revenue, driven by transactional fees, trust fees and bancassurance commissions, lifted total operating income 16 percent to P75.7 billion.

The bank maintained a conservative risk profile. The non-performing loan ratio held at 1.6 percent, with credit provisions raised to P7 billion, boosting NPL coverage to 109 percent, above the industry average.

Operating expenses rose 12 percent to P34.4 billion due to higher manpower costs, taxes and technology investment, but efficiency improved, with the cost-to-income ratio easing to 45 percent.

Total assets climbed 8 percent to P1.8 trillion, deposits rose 9 percent to P1.4 trillion, and total capital increased 13 percent to P191.3 billion. The common equity tier 1 ratio stood at 15.2 percent, and the total capital adequacy ratio was 16.1 percent. Book value per share rose 13 percent to P71.04.

Chinabank also advanced digital services, including Google Pay integration, Green PINs, instant card lock/unlock, the Ultra Rewards program, and the Chinabank @Home Visa card.

Founded in 1920, Chinabank is the Philippines’ fourth-largest private universal bank and a member of the SM Group, with over 650 branches and extensive digital channels.
