China Banking Corp. has shifted more than 30% of its branch network to renewable energy under a power supply agreement with a unit of Aboitiz Power Corp.
The two-megawatt retail aggregation deal with AdventEnergy will provide electricity to 153 Chinabank branches across Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite and Laguna.
The transaction was executed under the Energy Regulatory Commission’s Retail Aggregation Program, which allows companies to consolidate the electricity demand of multiple facilities and purchase power directly from the competitive electricity market.
The Sy-led lender said the agreement forms part of a broader energy contracting strategy across the SM Group and its affiliates, while also helping shield operations from volatility in global fuel markets.
“In line with our commitment to support the development of renewable energy projects in the country, Chinabank believes that its own operational electricity should be sourced from renewable alternatives whenever possible,” Chinabank president and CEO Romeo D. Uyan Jr. said in a statement.
The bank previously transitioned its Makati headquarters and Binondo Business Center to 100% renewable energy in 2025 through an agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions, a move that reduced its indirect greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 20%.
“Our partnership with AdventEnergy enables us to secure clean energy, reduce our carbon footprint, and actively build a more sustainable future,” Uyan added.
“Just as banks like Chinabank operate around the clock to serve the Filipino public, we are committed to delivering integrated and sustainable energy solutions that are always-on, always reliable, and always ready to meet their needs,” AdventEnergy VP Catherine Del Villar-Pasilaban said.
