BPI extends scholarships to relatives of medical frontliners

Bank of the Philippine Islands led by bankero TG Limcaoco through its social development arm is now looking for a new batch of scholars for academic year 2022-2023.

The BPI Foundation through the BPI Pagpupugay Program supports the next of kin of medical frontliners who contracted COVID-19 or who passed away in the line of duty during the pandemic.

“This marks our third year of giving tribute to our COVID-19 medical heroes. We salute them for their dedication as they continue serving our fellow Filipinos in these challenging times. We hope that through this program, we will be able to help create a better future for their children and close relatives,” BPI Foundation executive director Owen Cammayo said.

The program is a five-year scholarship program with an initial P1 million fund per school year. Five scholars were chosen in 2020 while 10 scholars were added in 2021, to be evaluated for renewal annually.

For the Academic Year 2022-2023, eight additional scholars will be selected. Each scholar will be provided a maximum of P100,000 scholarship fund per academic year to cover tuition fees and miscellaneous expenses.

Eligible applicants are the next of kin of the following medical frontliners who contracted COVID- 19 or who passed away in the line of duty during the global health crisis.

These frontliners include doctors, nurses, medical technologists, community health workers as well as administrative, utility, and support services personnel in health care facilities.

If the medical front liner is married, the priority beneficiary will be one of his or her children. If single, the beneficiary can be next of kin up to the third degree of consanguinity.

To qualify, students must be enrolled in or applying to any college or university nationwide. They must have and maintain a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 85 percent or its equivalent and/or prevailing University standards for the previous school year (for incoming 1st year) or semester (for incoming 2nd year to 5th year).
