BDO, Mastercard celebrate 20 years of helping OFWs send money home

BDO Unibank Inc. and Mastercard are marking 20 years of partnership in providing financial services to overseas Filipinos.

Over that period, the collaboration has reached more than four million customers abroad through remittance and payment services.

The partnership combines BDO’s remittance network with Mastercard’s global payment system. This allows Filipinos overseas to send money home more easily and stay connected to their families financially.

“For the last 20 years, the collaboration between BDO and Mastercard has helped serve overseas Filipinos, over four million of them, and we look forward to the next 20 years of working with BDO,” said Jason Crasto, Mastercard country manager for the Philippines.

The partnership also supports everyday transactions. Millions of BDO ATM cards with the Mastercard logo are used for purchases and cash withdrawals in the Philippines and abroad.

“We’re proud to stand alongside BDO in this collaboration that has reached millions of Filipinos here and abroad. Its reach across markets reflects the role we’ve built together over the years in supporting how they stay financially connected,” Crasto said.

BDO senior vice president and remittance head Genie Gloria said the partnership continues to focus on helping overseas Filipinos and their families.

“At the heart of our 20-year collaboration with Mastercard is a shared commitment to serve our kabayans,” Gloria said.

She added that BDO aims to keep improving the remittance experience. “As we look ahead, our focus remains clear: to continuously innovate and uplift the remittance experience, ensuring that every remittance is not just a transaction, but a connection delivered with care and trust,” she said.

BDO and Mastercard also said they are working on new digital tools to make cross-border payments safer, easier, and more convenient, as more overseas Filipinos use digital banking.

“There’s a lot of innovation you’ll be hearing more about in 2026,” Crasto said, adding that future projects will focus on simpler and more secure transactions.
