BDO Foundation’s fisherfolk financial education program earns prestigious awards across asia

BDO Foundation’s corporate citizenship initiative, dedicated to empowering Filipino fishers, has garnered significant recognition by receiving four prestigious awards. This initiative, a collaborative effort with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, has been celebrated for its outstanding contributions and innovative approaches to improving the financial well-being of Filipino fishers.

These accolades were officially presented during the ABF Retail Banking Awards, Asiamoney Banking Awards, Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards, and LCF CSR Guild Awards. These events, both in-person and online, attracted hundreds of participants from across the continent.

The financial education program for fisherfolk, supported by BDO Foundation, is designed to enhance the financial literacy, productivity, and income-generating capabilities of approximately 1.9 million fisherfolk throughout the Philippines. It is a pioneering initiative recognized for its significant impact on coastal communities.

In particular, the awards acknowledge the creation of “Fish N’ LEarn,” a gamified teaching tool developed in collaboration with partners. This tool engages fisherfolk in financial literacy lessons and covers topics such as the conservation of marine resources, saving, budgeting, financial planning, entrepreneurship, insurance, and debt management.
