The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated close to $3 million for the six-month pilot implementation of the proposed national food stamp program in the Philippines, according to Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian.
The program aims to provide food credits through electronic benefit transfers to approximately one million poor families, targeting the bottom one million households as defined by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
The pilot testing will take place in five selected sites, and the program is expected to require around P40 billion for full-scale implementation.
