ADB awards $450k grant for disaster management tool in the Philippines

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has awarded a $450,000 grant to Tokyo-based startup LocationMind Inc. for the development of a tool for disaster management and urban planning in the Philippines.

The grant was awarded as part of the Technology Innovation Challenge and will develop a poverty impact and vulnerability evaluation (PIVE) tool.

The tool will use various data sources to generate information on poor and vulnerable populations to assess their vulnerability to disasters, economic shocks, and health crises, and develop interventions.

Policymakers, planners and other stakeholders in disaster management and urban planning in the country are expected to benefit from the tool.

The project will last for 15 months, and its potential for scaling up and for other use cases will be evaluated at the end of the project.
